At Covalent, we’re constantly looking for ways to create more value for our customers: faster answers, shorter development cycles, and access to world-class analytical expertise when and where it’s needed. Today, I’m excited to announce an important step in that journey.
Covalent has established Covalent India Private Limited, with a growing team based in Bangalore. We already have four talented team members on board, and this marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our company.
When people hear that a metrology company is expanding internationally, they often assume the next step is building a laboratory. That’s not our plan—at least not today. Instead, our focus is on using a global operating model to enhance the services we provide to our North American customers.
Over the past several years, Covalent has invested more than $40 million building one of the most advanced independent materials characterization laboratories in Silicon Valley. Our Core Lab houses a broad suite of analytical instrumentation and capabilities that support innovators across semiconductors, electronics, energy, biotechnology, advanced materials, and other technology-driven industries.
What many people don’t realize is that much of this equipment can be operated remotely. The instruments are in California, but the scientists and engineers who operate them don’t necessarily need to be.
By establishing a team in India, we can extend our operations beyond the traditional workday. While our California team sleeps, our India team can continue running instruments, processing data, performing analysis, and preparing reports. The result is a true 24-hour operation.
For our customers, that means:
- Faster project completion and reduced time-to-data
- Improved responsiveness on urgent projects
- Greater instrument utilization and capacity
- More efficient execution of data analysis and reporting
- A stronger and more scalable service platform
But this expansion is about more than operational efficiency. At Covalent, we believe the future of scientific services is digital, connected, and increasingly independent of geography. The same cloud-connected infrastructure that allows an engineer in Bangalore to operate an instrument in Silicon Valley today will ultimately enable new AI-driven workflows, automated analysis, intelligent scheduling, and more seamless collaboration across our global network.
This is another step toward building the modern operating system for materials characterization and scientific outsourcing.
Science doesn’t need to sleep, and increasingly, neither does Covalent.
This initiative reflects a broader philosophy within our company. Innovation isn’t just about acquiring new instruments or developing new analytical techniques. It’s also about continuously improving how science gets done.
Our customers operate in highly competitive industries where development cycles are shrinking and decisions need to be made quickly. Every day saved in the path from question to answer creates real value.
By combining a world-class Silicon Valley laboratory with a global team of talented scientists and engineers, we’re building an organization that can deliver results faster, operate more efficiently, and better support the innovators who rely on us.
This is just the beginning for Covalent India, and we’re excited about the opportunities ahead. As always, our mission remains the same: helping our customers accelerate innovation through exceptional science, outstanding service, and relentless operational improvement.
